Sheriff: Suspect killed after Placer shooting death
A homicide suspect was shot in a confrontation with deputies and officers Tuesday, following shootings between Loomis and Newcastle, the Placer County Sheriff's Office said today.
The Sheriff's Office issued a release today on the confrontation with authorities on Interstate 80 near Highway 65 and events leading up to it:
"Just after 7 p.m. on January 15th, the Sheriff’s dispatch center began receiving several 911 calls reporting a man brandishing a weapon and firing shots in south Placer County," the report said. "These incidents occurred at several locations between Loomis and Newcastle. Two victims were shot at in two separate locations, and one of the gunshot victims died."
The suspect was located driving on Interstate 80 near Highway 65, where he was confronted by officers and deputies. This resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The suspect died, the Sheriff's Office said.
A sheriff’s patrol dog was shot during the incident but expected to recover, the Sheriff's Office said.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the homicide and the incidents in south Placer County that led up to the officer-involved shooting. The Roseville Police Department will be investigating the officer-involved shooting as it occurred within the city limits of Roseville.
