ROCKLIN– Sierra College women’s basketball coach Brandie Murrish has added another milestone to her already impressive resume.
Tuesday night’s 71-55 home win over American River College elevated the Sierra coach into the 300-win club.
Sierra allowed just six third-quarter points in subduing the Beavers. Kailee McCarrick led three Wolverines in double-figures with 19 points while Aycee Willis chipped in 11 and Jessie Armstrong 10 in the winning effort.
Murrish, who is in her 13th season as the women’s hoops coach at Sierra, followed in the footsteps of another 300-plus game winner in Roz Goldenberg, who compiled a 353-130 record over 15 seasons for the Wolverines.
Murrish made an immediate impression and impact on the women’s basketball program at Sierra when she led her 2006–07 team to a 32-5 record and a state runner-up finish. That year, Murrish was named the Northern Region Coach of the Year by the California Community College Athletic Association.
Murrish has led Sierra to four Big 8 Conference championships as well as playoff berths in each of her previous 12 seasons. With the way the Wolverines are playing, the 2018–19 team could be headed there as well.
The Wolverine women have won five of their last six, putting them at 5-3 in the Big 8. Sierra sits in fourth place in the standings behind Diablo Valley (8-0), Delta (7-1) and Sacramento City (6-2).
With eight games remaining on the schedule, Sierra (14-6 overall) sees each of the three teams ahead in the standings once more, including this Friday at Sac City. The Wolverines split their final eight with four road and four home games.
