COLFAX – The Colfax Falcons’ boys basketball team remained perfect in Pioneer Valley League play here Wednesday night but it wasn’t easy.

The Falcons, trailing Center virtually the entire game and at one point by as many as nine points late in the third quarter, capitalized on a late technical foul call on the Cougars to score the game’s last six points and escape Pucci Pavilion with a nail-biting 51-47 victory.

Trailing 47-45 with 1:55 left in the contest, the Falcons tied the game after a Center technical foul on two free throws by Garren O’Keefe and then took the lead for good on the ensuing possession when O’Keefe scored on a lay-in after taking a nice feed from Nate Sawi.

After a Center miss, Mason Ahrens pushed Colfax’s lead with 34 seconds to play with a pair of free tosses for the final 51-47 margin.

Colfax, now 6-0 in the PVL and 17-6 overall, was led by O’Keefe’s 18 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Sawi added 10 more for the winners including seven in the second half. Max Wolff followed with eight and Ahrens added seven.

Center, which led 15-9, 25-19 and 37-35 at the first three quarter stops, was led by sophomore guard Michael Wortham’s 20 points. Emari White followed with eight.

In other PVL action Wednesday, Foothill defeated Lincoln, 57-46.
