A 9-0 shutout of Whitney last week kept the Del Oro girls tennis team on pace with the Sierra Foothill League leaders. The outcome left Del Oro and Rocklin locked in a first-place SFL logjam with identical 5-1 league records.

Something was going to have to give, however, as the Golden Eagles and Thunder were set to collide Thursday in a match that will go along way in determining this season’s SFL champion. In the two teams’ first meeting, Rocklin posted a convincing 7-2 win.

In last week’s triumph over Whitney, Del Oro’s doubles squads led the way as they handled their Wildcat opponents.

In one of the best matches of the afternoon, the Eagles, 13-2 overall on the season, saw their No. 1 doubles duo of Elaina Hanson and Madi Parry outlast Whitney’s Peyton Janda and Sofie Dick, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. The win for Hanson and Parry was the second time this season the Del Oro pair had gone the tiebreaker route to defeat Janda and Dick.

Also, Del Oro’s Kylie Lunders and Ava Mosher teamed at No. 2 doubles to stop Lindsay Sobeck and Jade Watari, 6-1, 6-2, while Jena Howard and Lauren Luci won at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2.

Grabbing singles victories for the Eagles were Ali Isaac (6-1, 6-3), Emma Dobson (6-1, 6-1), Sophia Fusano (6-1, 6-1), Jacy Tooker (6-1, 6-3), Ariana Brockman (6-0, 6-1) and Jianna Domingo (6-3, 6-3).

Del Oro closes SFL play next week with an away match at Folsom Tuesday and a home encounter versus Granite Bay Thursday.
