With a successful outing at the Pioneer Valley League individual championships Thursday in Lincoln Thursday, eleven of 12 Placer High School varsity wrestlers qualified for next week’s two-day Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III Tournament Championships.

Taking first place for the Hillmen, and the all-league titles, were sophomore Josh Mason at 126 pounds and senior Ryan Talley (195).

The team also tallied six second-place finishers in Gama Gomez, Michael Valdez, Brendan Packheiser, Mason Lenover, Will Thornton and Michael Nunez.

Hayden Mills finished third.  Anthony Wong and Myles Lenover earned fourth-place finishes, while Paul Lonicki was fifth.

Placer, the 2013 PVL co-champions, showed a lot of promise with up and coming junior varsity wrestlers as well. The JV squad finished the day with five first-place finishes, including Austin Mullen, Andrew Wong, Chris James, Kyle Penney and Nick Daniel.
