When all the ballots were counted, it’s not surprising that the top two football teams in the Pioneer Valley League this season dominated the All-PVL football squad, which was selected this week in a vote of the league’s coaches.

PVL champion Colfax landed 10 players on the All-League first team while PVL runners-up Bear River placed nine more players on the league’s first squad. The Falcons also had two more players named as second team selections while the Bruins landed three to the second team.

Colfax, in addition, walked off with the lion’s share of the league’s individual awards.

Three-year varsity receiver Jake Green was tagged as the PVL’s Offensive Most Valuable Player. Meanwhile, senior linebacker Tucker Klopotek earned the league’s Defensive Most Valuable Player honor.

Veteran Colfax coach Tony Martello, who earlier this season won his 200th career game, was also tagged by his peers as the PVL’s Coach of the Year.

Green was a two-way standout for the Falcons this season as he also was one of the team’s leaders at safety. On offense, Green ended the regular season with 34 receptions for 784 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Green, now with 108 career receptions, moved past Alec Greco (1996-98) into seventh place on Colfax’s all-time reception list. Sitting ahead of Green as the playoffs begin are Jeff Divine (2007-08, 109), Justin Chastain (2005-06, 111) and Keith Lynch (1998-99, 112).

Klopotek, meanwhile, a 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound linebacker, was Colfax’s leading tackler this season and the heart and soul of a unit that allowed just 12 points a game in PVL action.

Colfax’s other first-team picks on offense included wide receiver Colton Reeves, offensive lineman Jake LaHaie, tight end Peter O’Brien and quarterback Alex Weir.

The Falcons’ defensive first-team selections were John McCann at linebacker, Parker Sullivan on the line and Dylan Owens and John Beckman as defensive backs.

On offense, Bear River placed running back Tre Maronic, linemen Trae Nix and Jonny Carrillo and Dylan Scott at wide receiver.

Bear River’s defensive selections were Sam Davis on the line. Logan Jenkins and Austin Slining at linebacker and Colton Jenkins and Calder Kunde as defensive backs.
