The Auburn Interfaith Food Closet (AIFC) is gearing up its efforts towards organizing its third annual Turkey Drive in Auburn.
“Last year the generous community response provided over 520 turkeys/chickens/hams to distribute to low-income families,” said Pam Murray of AIFC in a press release.
This year families with three or more can apply for a frozen turkey or ham. Small households can request a whole chicken or ham.
“This is the third Turkey Drive the AIFC has held and we feel it will be largest drive ever with the new inclusion of not just turkeys and chicken but also hams with more sponsors, places, and opportunities for people to give during this wonderful Thanksgiving holiday season,” said Bonnie Godfrey, food resources committee chairman. “Thank you to our amazing sponsors: Auburn Journal, Auburn Moving Company, Bel Air, Grocery Outlet, Safeway, and Wells Fargo.”
The meat will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
To donate a frozen turkey, purchase one from a sponsoring grocery store. The store will then hand it off to the food closet, or it can be delivered to Auburn Grocery Outlet 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 17.
To apply to receive a turkey, go to auburnfoodcloset.org to register and get pick-up details, or fill out an application at the food closet before Nov. 15.
“We look forward to another wonderful year working with the community to share the blessing of Thanksgiving,” Murray said.
