Twisted Licorice is a clarinet ensemble that started with players from the Auburn Winds.
“We began getting together for sectional rehearsals to work on our full band music. Eventually we moved to selecting musical arrangements specifically for clarinet ensembles, which we found challenging and rewarding,” said David Lake.
Twisted Licorice has seven players; playing arrangements using soprano, alto and bass clarinets.
Two of the players have B.A. degrees in clarinet performance, and one has a masters degree in choral music. Other players have backgrounds in engineering, construction, teaching and health care.
“We play classical music, of course, starting with the 1600s Baroque era through high classical, romantic periods and on into the modern era. But we also enjoy playing folk tunes and traditional music, jazz and swing, and even show tunes and movie music,” Lake said.
A repertoire of Christmas music has been developed for their performance at the Historic Courthouse Saturday evening.
