Colfax’s Falcons recovered from an opening-round loss in their Falcon Shootout basketball tournament to post a 2-1 record and emerge as consolation champions of the three-day event.
Saturday, Colfax received 23 points from Maxx Wolff, 16 from Alex Weir and 13 from Jake Green as the Falcons downed Bear River, 71-57. The game was knotted at halftime 28-28 before the Falcons pulled away with a 46-point second half.
Mike LaVigne chipped in with nine more points for the Falcons (5-8) while Bear River (8-6) was paced by Adam Malik and Brekyn Vasquez, both with 17 points each.
Wolff and Green were tagged to the All-Tournament team for the Falcons while Malik was named from Bear River. Colfax will play Woodland at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento Wednesday at 6 p.m.
In the tournament’s championship game, El Dorado built a big 43-26 halftime lead on their way to running past Natomas, 74-52.
The third-place battle saw a pair of North Coast Section rivals battle, and in a close game, Clear Lake topped Cloverdale, 62-56. Jaron Mertle led Clear Lake with 21 points while Darius Ford added 15.
In the seventh-place game, Franklin of Stockton topped Highlands, 72-67.
Clear Lake won the JV division of the tourney with a 51-37 decision over Colfax.
