With one eye on the weather, area prep soccer teams entered the final week of regular season play warily contemplating their respective chances to reach the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section postseason, which begins next week.

However, because of the heavy dose of inclement weather which may force the cancellation of some matches on Monday and Tuesday, league officials were sent scrambling in an effort to get in final contests before the section’s mandated league completion date of Feb. 7.

“I’m not sure what we’re going to do,” said Colfax girls coach Kara Diederichs. “After the rains over the weekend and Monday, I’m sure our field in unplayable. We’re supposed to use Del Oro on Tuesday but after that, it’s up in the air.”

Placer, which has also used Del Oro’s artificial turf field in the past, may also be seeking an alternate site. The Hillmen, with regular grass as a home field, have respective girls and boys home matches slated with Ponderosa and Lincoln that may have to be shifted as well.

The section office will be seeding the playoffs Friday. Boys first-round matches are set to start Tuesday, Feb. 12, with the girls following the next day.

Here’s a look at the area teams’ playoff possibilities:

Colfax (9-5-5, 6-1-1) – The Colfax girls, by virtue of their 7-0 blanking of Bear River last week, cinched one of the Pioneer Valley League’s three playoff berths. The Lady Falcons are expected to be one of the higher seeded teams in the eight team Division V bracket.

Placer (8-9-3, 4-3-1) – With the Foothill Valley League girls sending just three teams to the postseason, the Hillmen girls have their work cut out as they entered the week trailing Ponderosa (7-0-0), Oakmont (5-2-1) and Lincoln (5-3-0) in the league chase. Last week’s 1-0 loss to Oakmont put Placer behind the 8-ball. Placer is slated to meet Ponderosa and Lincoln this week.

Del Oro (3-9-2, 1-6-2 ) – The Lady Eagles entered the week trying to stay ahead of Rocklin for the Sierra Foothill League’s fifth and final playoff spot. Despite dropping a 2-0 match to Folsom Friday, Del Oro’s 1-6-2 mark led Rocklin’s 1-7-1 slate. The Lady Eagles were set to host Granite Bay Wednesday in its SFL finale.

Placer (5-5-4, 3-3-2) – Despite last Thursday’s 3-1 loss to Oakmont, the Hillmen are in line for one of the FVL’s four playoff berths. Placer entered the week at 3-3-2 in FVL matches and in fourth place but well ahead of its closest pursuer, Nevada Union (1-6-1). The Hillmen were set to meet Ponderosa (5-1-2) and Lincoln (4-1-3) this week.

Del Oro (9-7-0, 3-5-0) – A second-half goal by Kyle Wesolowski snapped a scoreless deadlock and helped boost Del Oro to a huge 1-0 win over Folsom Friday. The win kept the Golden Eagles with a match-and-a-half lead over Rocklin for the league’s final playoff slot. Weather permitting, Del Oro was set to host Oak Ridge Monday and then play at Granite Bay Wednesday.
