Auburn Police have arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of sending sexually explicit images to a 15-year-old girl.
The teen was described as "a brave young woman" by Auburn's police chief for coming forward with allegations.
Some of the circumstances leading to the arrest were made public Sunday by Auburn Police.
Detectives from the department learned of the allegations Jan. 21 and interviewed multiple witnesses before the arrest. Both the suspect and victim are from the Auburn area.
Ulises Arellano-Torres was arrested on allegations of sending sexual images to a minor, communicating with the teen for the purpose of sexual gratification or child pornography and possession of child pornography. He has since been discharged from Placer County Jail, according to Sheriff's Office records.
The case has been submitted to the Placer County District Attorney's Office for potential prosecution, police said, adding that no additional information is being released regarding the investigation at this time.
Chief Ryan Kinnan said he wants to commend the girl for coming forward.
"She is a brave young woman who took a stand by reporting she was taken advantage of by an adult predator," Kinnan said. "The behaviors is unacceptable and the community can be assured we take these criminal allegations seriously and will investigate all of these types of allegations quickly and thoroughly."
There may be others who have information related to the case, Kinnan said. They are encouraged to report what they know to police, he said.
