I80 delays expected east of Colfax as work resumes on Caltrans ProjectBy: Staff report
COLFAX — A Caltrans project on Interstate 80 will affect traffic east of Colfax.
The project will build a truck climbing lane that is three-miles long with standard 10-foot inside and outside shoulders, widen and replace the Cape Horn Undercrossing, construct 1,100-foot retaining wall at Magra Road, extend culverts and upgrade drainage facilities and relocate guardrail and safety barriers.
There will be lane closures scheduled from 6 p.m April 30 to 6 p.m. May 2 with the following details from CHP.
April 30-May 5, night: Closure of eastbound I-80 to remove and restripe the eastbound pavement delineation and shift eastbound traffic to new alignment.
May 1 daytime: Closure to both westbound and eastbound left (No. 1) lanes to set temporary k-rail and remove concrete median barrier. The CHP will escort blocks of vehicles through the westbound closure segment.
May 1 and 2 nighttime: Continued closure of westbound left (No. 1) lane paving operations. The CHP will escort blocks of vehicles through the westbound closure segment.
May 2 daytime: Continued closure of westbound left (No.1) lane to remove and restripe the westbound pavement delineation, shift westbound traffic onto the cross-over and set temporary k-rail on the right side of westbound freeway lanes to protect the Cape Horn Bridge construction work area. The CHP will escort blocks of vehicles through the westbound closure segment.
