Receiving double wins from Ryan Mulholland and Cole Whatley and a single from Brayden McLaughlin, the Del Oro boys track team tallied 132 points to win the Sierra Foothill League championship meet Friday night at Nevada Union.
Mulholland, a junior sprinter, won both the 100 (11.04) and 200 (22.18) meter races while Whatley captured the 110 hurdles (14.96) and the high jump (5-10) to get the Golden Eagles off and running.
McLaughlin, meanwhile, grabbed first in the 1600 with a clocking of 4:29.0.
Granite Bay was second behind Del Oro in the boys varsity scoring with 102 points while Woodcreek (95) placed third and Rocklin (75) fourth.
Del Oro’s girls put up a real battle in their division and came up short by a point, trailing winning Oak Ridge, 126-125.
For the Lady Eagles, Cathilyn McIntosh and Kalli Udoffia helped lead the Del Oro effort.
McIntosh garnered first places in the 400 meters (55.90) and the 800 (2:18.56) while Udoffia won the shot put (35-5.75) and was third in the discus (105-02).
Other winning Del Oro girls included Tasha Brechtel in the high jump (5-2), Kayla Manduca in the 200 (25.85); Jayden Jackson (8-11) in the pole vault and Meagan Leaman in the long jump (17-0).
In JV competition, Del Oro’s Ashley Carey won the girls 3200 meters in 12:21.60 and Charles Ardoin took the boys 110 hurdles in 16.77 seconds.
Del Oro’s top qualifying athletes advance to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Div. I trials, which will be held Wednesday at Elk Grove High School.
