Dakota Redfern, who became the first pitcher in Colfax High baseball history to finish a season with a sub-1.00 earned run average and helped the Falcons to their first ever CIF Sac-Joaquin Section baseball championship this past season, has earned a berth on the Cal-Hi Sports All-State small schools baseball team that was announced this week.

Redfern, a senior pitcher-outfielder who was also a first team Sacramento Bee all-metro selection, was one of six players selected to the team from the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section.

“A very deserving reward for Dakota,” said Colfax High coach Dick Adams. “He was our hardest working player this season.”

Behind Redfern, who also batted a team high .449 this season with 22 RBI, the Falcons went 8-7 in Pioneer Valley League play and 19-9 overall.

In the post season, the Falcons defeated San Juan, Bear River and Argonaut twice to win the section’s Div. V championship.

On the mound this season, Redfern was 9-1 with 99 strikeouts in 67 innings of work. In the post season, in 18 and two-thirds innings, Redfern allowed 11 hits, no earned runs and fanned 28 batters.

Redfern was recruited by several area junior colleges but will attend UC Davis this coming school year. He has been invited to participate with the Aggies’ fall program has a walk-on.

Pitcher Alex Williams, a Stanford commit from Redwood Christian in Castro Valley, was named as the small schools state player of the year.

Redfern joins former Falcons Devin Loomis (2013) and David Campbell (2014) has recent Colfax High players to earn Cal-Hi Sports All-State honors.
