An Auburn man was arrested on suspicion of setting fire to a home, with a mother and her baby inside.

Placer County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 11000 block of Garnet Way in North Auburn for a fire.

According to witnesses, a man poured fuel on the door of the condominium’s laundry room, which is located under the child’s bedroom, the Sheriff’s Office said.

After he lit the fuel, the suspect fled. Cal Fire extinguished the fire before there was significant damage. The mother and her baby were able to escape the building uninjured, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office property crimes detectives and evidence technicians processed the scene, and identify the arson suspect as Dylan R. Fain, 25, an Auburn-area transient.

Patrol deputies found and arrested Fain a few hours later. He is being held in the Placer County Jail on charges of arson of an inhabited dwelling and child endangerment. His bail is set at $250,000.
