More than a place for books

Have you been to the library this summer yet? If not, you really should and here is why: Libraries are so much more than a place to get a book. They are community hubs, places for people to gather and learn new things, socialize, and have fun. Libraries are the heartbeat of the community, offering something for everyone.

During the summer the library transforms even further, it becomes the venue for amazing events and activities designed to promote learning in a fun and exciting way. We at the library like to refer to this as “Summer at Your Library,” but I’ve hear it called many things (the best of which was “the coolest place in town”). During summer, you will find events such as Wild Things, Cupcake Wars, Family Game Nights, Groovy Tie Dye, and Messy Day Learn ‘N Plays. All events at the Placer County Libraries are free and sure to be lots of fun for the family. Summer may feel like it is speeding by but there are still lots of events happening at the library.

Not only will you find amazing events and interesting things to do while at the library, but the fun can continue at home when you pick up a summer activity log. No matter your age everyone has the chance to earn a prize. We think that this year the prizes are better than ever. I am especially excited about our Golden Tickets, which are the grand prize for our school-age participants. These tickets get the finisher, a friend, plus their families into secret after hour library events. Because the events are secret, I cannot tell you what they are but I will say that they will be the most magical place in the entire galaxy filled with surprise after surprise. There will be magic at every turn and adventures on the horizon.

If you haven’t done so already, you can pick up an activity log form any Placer County Library. Our calendar of events is available by going to and clicking on the Summer at Your Library banner. We hope to see you at our next event!
