Our View: Rogue massage operators unwelcome in Auburn. It’s the law
Massage businesses in Auburn offering sexual services?
Wherever there is a weak link in the chain of justice, there is a member of the criminal community looking for a way in.
In Auburn, sources say that law enforcement has been playing “whack-a-mole” with one “massage” business operating on the wrong side of the law.
The police would manage to shut the owner down in one location, only to see it open up in another.
The female employees were being bused in from out-of-county to ply their rogue trade. In past similar situations, the prospects of human trafficking were being investigated.
The Auburn City Council, the city’s legal counsel and Auburn Police worked together to craft new rules for massage businesses that hopefully will close any loopholes in the law and keep prostitution out of Auburn and keep massage enterprises in the city on the right side of the law.
Massage business licensing will go through the police chief and several rules on entrances, on-the-job dress, outlawing of alarms to alert employees of a law-enforcement presence go a long way to restoring some realistic expectations to guide the massage industry in Auburn.
Most importantly, it sends a clear message to rogue operators that they’re not welcome in Auburn.
