A woman reported to be suicidal pulled out a handgun and was shot and killed at a Meadow Vista house by a deputy early Thursday, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 44-year-old woman’s death is being investigated by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, a report from the sheriff’s office stated.

The gun was later discovered to be loaded, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dena Erwin said.

A deputy arrived at the home at about 12:25 a.m. and saw the woman standing at the back of the house, she said.

“He spoke with her and asked her to show her hands,” Erwin stated. “She was shot when she pulled out a .38 caliber handgun.”

The shooting incident followed a call from the Chico Police Department to the Auburn Police Department around midnight, stating that someone in their jurisdiction had seen suicidal statements on Facebook from a woman they believed lived in Auburn.

Since the woman had different addresses associated with her name, Auburn Police called the Sheriff’s Office for assistance, Erwin said. Deputies were sent to an address on Crystal lane in Meadow Vista. The dead woman’s name had not been released because her family had not been notified, the Sheriff’s Office said.the woman was identified Friday by the Sheriff's Officve as Tamala Anne Satre, 44, of Meadow Vista.
