The Sierra College Wolverine Athletic Association, a group designated to help make a positive difference in the lives of hundreds of athletes on all of Sierra College’s 17 intercollegiate athletic teams, has a busy slate of activities coming up over the next few months.
The Wolverine Athletic Association (WAA) has scheduled its second annual fundraising golf tournament for Monday, Oct. 15, at The Ridge in Auburn. The tournament, a four-player scramble, will tee off with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.
The WAA will also be hosting a lasagna feed following the Sierra College-Santa Rosa football scrimmage Aug. 23 at Buzz Ostrom Field. The WAA will be providing dinner for both the Wolverines and Bear Cubs.
The WAA Membership Drive will take the forefront Sept. 22 during the playing of the Sierra College-Diablo Valley football game. A signup booth will be available with information on the WAA.
Also this football season, former Sierra football coach Rex Chappell will be on hand as a guest at the WAA’s Sierra College Alumni Barbecue before the Feather River game Oct. 27. A donation of $20 will include a ticket to the barbecue and admission into the game.
Sierra College has been a constant among the Top 10 finishers since winning the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators Cup during its first year in 2003–04. The Learfield Cup is awarded to the top overall two-year college.
Sierra had nine Big 8 championships: men's water polo, women's golf, women's volleyball, women's basketball, baseball, beach volleyball, men's swimming and diving, and softball. Sixteen of Sierra's 18 teams competed in postseason this past year.
