  • River Valley at Placer, 6;30 p.m.
  • Oakmont at Colfax, 6:30 p.m.
  • Foresthill at Foothill Jamboree, 7 p.m.

  • Bear River at Nevada Union, 9 a.m.

Area prep football teams, tired of beating up each other in practices for the past two weeks, will get a chance to hit someone with a different color uniform on this weekend.

With Zero Week football openers just eight days away, the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section’s first allowable weekend of scrimmage action will take place Friday and Saturday.

Friday, Del Oro will get the jump on area squads when the Golden Eagles travel to Sacramento to tackle Christian Brothers at 10 a.m. Later Friday, Placer, Colfax and Foresthill will get into the live action.

Placer will entertain River Valley of Yuba City at LeFebvre Stadium starting at 7 p.m. The visiting Falcons are co-coached by former Nevada Union coach Dave Humphers and former standout NU lineman Brennan McFadden, who played at Utah State.

River Valley is led by 6-foot-4, 215-pound quarterback Dawson McPeak, who has committed to play next year at Northern Arizona.

Also on Friday, Colfax will be at home at 6:30 p.m. hosting Oakmont in varsity, JV and frosh scrimmages. The Falcons, who open the season hosting Golden Sierra  Aug. 17, will be trying to replace 3,000-yard passer Ryland Heimann and 1,800-yard rusher Mason Ahrens.

In Sacramento on Friday, Foresthill will compete in the eight-team Foothill Jamboree that will start at 7 p.m.

Saturday, Nevada Union will host Bear River starting at 9 a.m.
