SANTA CRUZ, Calif.– The Auburn 49er United Warriors Under-15 girls soccer team had as perfect a tournament as a team could possibly have over the weekend.

The club took the annual Breakers Cup in Santa Cruz last weekend with four shutout victories to claim its Bronze Division championship.

“I’m extremely proud of my team,” said United head coach Dallas Butterfield, who also coaches the girls JV soccer team at Placer High. “We only had one sub for the entire weekend, which makes it really hard, especially over four games.”

Despite the low numbers, the Warriors defeated Fair Oaks SC Fire, 2-0, and Alternativo Futbol Blaze, 5-0, on Saturday before a pair of 1-0 victories Sunday against Livermore Fusion SC and a rematch with Fair Oaks gave the club a hard-earned championship.

The tournament victory helped move the Warriors move up to a higher bracket, meaning more intense competition, said Butterfield.

“They’ve shown determination and hard work, and they’ve grown tremendously,” Butterfield said. “It’s fun to see the hard work pay off.”

Abbigail Reuter blanked the opposition in all four matches from in between the goal posts. Trinity Schneider and Sara Reuter led the club’s offensive attack with three goals apiece while Faith Bangert, Savannah Sheets and Katelyn Meyers each netted winners.

Up next for the United Warriors is the official beginning of their fall season at the end of August with another competitive tournament in Cherry Island – in which the team will be playing in a higher bracket – scheduled for late September.
