It’s said to be Placer County’s biggest garage sale of the year and the tons of bargains didn’t disappoint.

Thousands turned out this past Saturday and Sunday to comb through a virtual cornucopia of donations at the Foresthill Volunteer Fire Association garage sale.

“If you can’t find it here, they never made it,” Scott Sanders half-joked, as he placed a mosquito trap in the back of his SUV.

By the end of the two-day frenzy of shopping at three locations — the Tin Barn on Foresthill Road, plus the collectibles building at Memorial Hall and a clothing outlet at the former elementary school — organizers were anticipating the profit would meet or exceed previous years’ totals of about $30,000. The money goes toward a variety of causes in the mountain community, 17 miles east of Auburn, including eggs for the Easter egg hunt and candy given out at Halloween.

Volunteer Denise Dermenjian said that the Foresthill area was so generous with donations over the past year, the organizing committee had to cut off contributions earlier than usual. And that was on top of an estimated 40 percent increase in donations in 2017.
