Auburn Journal, KAHI team goes deep on top stories

-A +A

Auburn Journal reporter Gus Thomson is now joining KAHI’s noon news program with Mary Jane Popp for a weekly segment highlighting some of the week’s top stories.

Popp welcomes Thomson on Thursdays during the latter part of the first half hour of the noontime broadcast.

And Thomson invariably starts off a lively discussion with the words “Have I got news for you.”

Thomson is marking 30 years as a reporter with the Auburn Journal in December. He’s a state and national award-winning news reporter who also writes the Media Life and “Remember This?” columns at the Journal. Thomson has lived in the city of Auburn for 29 of those 30 years.

“Teaming with Mary Jane allows me to go deeper into the stories that I write in the Auburn Journal,” Thomson said. “And she’s a great interviewer who’s able to bring out the nuances in the stories we discuss.”

Popp brings several decades of experience to KAHI, starting with hosting a talk show in Indianapolis and including more than 40 years of TV and radio work in the Sacramento area. As well as the noon slot, her “Poppoff With Mary Jane Popp” airs weeknights from 6-7 p.m. and 11 p.m.-midnight on KAHI 950 AM and KAHI 104.5 FM.
