Video and photo images of suspects in two Placer County thefts are being released by investigators hoping to collar ID crooks.

The first shows a man at Auburn’s Smart & Final grocery store at 7 a.m. Sept. 16. The Sheriff’s Office said the man used a credit card stolen in a burglary that day or the day before at an Emigrant Gap campsite.

Another image on video released by the Sheriff’s Office shows a man at the Auburn Target store, where surveillance cameras catch him making a purchase and leaving in a silver Nissan Xterra or similar vehicle. Detectives believe there is a connection to a July vehicle burglary at Hidden Falls Regional Park. The victim’s wallet and credit cards were taken in the theft and subsequently used at the Target store, the Sheriff’s Office said. The man in the video bought several gift cards with the stolen credit cards.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking members of the public with information on the identify of the man at Smart and Final to call the investigation division at 530-889-7830 and ask for detective Spurgeon. On the Hidden Falls case, they should contact detective Farren at 530-889-7873 or email him at
