All-Cities topples Auburn

One night after their wild comeback victory, the Auburn Little League Softball Junior All-Stars were sent to an elimination game by All-Cities. The powerful squad from Manteca beat Auburn 8-3 Thursday night at Beggs Field to land a spot on the championship game of the Northern California Division 2 Tournament. All-Cities pitcher Kirstin Mortimer kept Auburn’s offense in check after the third inning. She was also 3-for-4 at the plate to spark All-Cities’ rally. Auburn jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but All-Cities tied it in the second. Auburn went up 3-2 in the third, but All-Cities roared back with four runs in the fifth as the Auburn defense committed several errors. The Manteca squad tacked on two more runs in the sixth to send Auburn into the elimination bracket. Michaela Leonard was 2-for-4 for Auburn while Kailey Gaffney added a double. Auburn is back on the field tonight in a rematch against Red Bluff at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to take on All-Cities on Saturday. The elimination bracket champion must beat All-Cities twice to win the tournament. Auburn beat Red Bluff 12-11 in 10 innings Wednesday night to open the Division 2 Tournament.
