A Lake of the Pines man charged with 78 felonies related to fraudulent investments schemes is scheduled for court this week. William Lawson Campbell, who was 64 when he was arrested in October, was scheduled for a Jan. 13 felony conference, but it was continued to 1 p.m. Thursday in Nevada City, according to the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office. According to the District Attorney’s Office, while more alleged victims have come forward, an amended criminal complaint hasn’t been filed yet. Campbell’s Lake of the Pines house was scheduled to be auctioned Jan. 12, but the auction was postponed to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the courthouse in Nevada City due to the beneficiary’s request, according to Agency Sales & Posting, the company facilitating the auction of the home. Campbell is charged with 26 counts of grand theft, 26 counts of selling securities without being qualified and 26 counts of unlawful sales of securities. Campbell allegedly took over $650,000 from 50 victims, according to Sgt. Steve Tripp at the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office. ~Bridget Jones
