Amara stellar in debut

Anthony Amara dazzled in his first varsity start, allowing two hits while striking out seven in Placer’s 10-0, six-inning win over visiting River City in nonleague baseball action Monday. Matt Ross went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Jordan Arndt and Joel Thys each had two hits and drove in runs for the Hillmen (1-2), who travel to Mesa Verde Friday. Woodland 10, Del Oro 0 at Woodland — Blake Reynolds homered twice, drove in seven runs and pitched all five innings in the Wolves’ shutout. Trevor Thomas, Mike Baker and Matt Leak pitched for the Golden Eagles. All three paid the price of walks. Cole Perez doubled and had two of Del Oro’s four hits. The Eagles (2-1) host Bella Vista this afternoon. Marysville 6, Colfax 2 at Colfax — The Falcons threw six different pitchers, dropping their season opener. SOFTBALL Freshman Ashley Scott singled home Marqi Bearry in the bottom of the 12th to lead Colfax over visiting Marysville 5-4 Monday. Cassandra Campbell and Jorden Gerlach doubled for the Falcons, who improved to 3-2 overall. Cara Spence pitched all 12 innings, scattering six hits while striking out 14 and walking four. Colfax travels to Wheatland today. GOLF Rob Schauble fired a 2-under 38 to earn medallist honors and lead Placer in a 207-256 win over Mesa Verde in a makeup match at Sierra Pines Golf Course in Roseville Monday. Joseph Greenlee shot a 40 for the Hillmen. Ryan Holden topped Mesa Verde with a 41. Placer (2-0) plays El Dorado at Cold Springs Golf and Country Club in Placerville.
