April showered in entertaining activities

Auburn’s entertainment scene has a spring in its step this month, offering plenty of fun throughout April. Film festival “Reel Classy Broads” is the theme for the Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center 2011 film festival, which runs April 8-10. This year’s festival includes six films featuring some classic Hollywood divas. Tickets are $9 at the door, and festival passes, good for all six films, are $45. The festival also features a costume contest April 9 and an opening night “Reel Classy Gala,” which begins at 6 p.m. April 8. Gala tickets are $12. Comedy night Soroptimist International of Auburn promises to have you in stitches during the Side-Splitters Gala. The 10th annual comedy night goes from 7-10 p.m. April 9 and features comedian Jackie Cashian, a local talent show, light hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, no-host bar and more. April Foolery The Sugar Plump Fairies host April Foolery, their fourth annual costume-ball fundraiser, at 8 p.m. April 9 at the Auburn Masonic Hall, 956 1/2 Lincoln Way. Costumes and formal wear are encouraged for this night, which features dancing, mouth-watering finger foods, a photo booth, silent auction, no-host bar, prizes and more. Quilt show The Foothill Quilters Guild holds its 29th annual quilt show April 9-10 at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, 1273 High St., Auburn. The theme for this year is “Patterns in Time”and showcases quilting through the ages, encompassing traditional and contemporary pieces. The show, which runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 9 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 10, features more than 300 quilts and 30 vendors. Lana LaPlante is this year’s featured quilter. Tickets are $7. More than 30 locations between Old Town and Downtown Auburn become galleries for a night, showcasing the creations of local artists. Wild West Stampede The Wild West Stampede galloping into town later this month, promising a week of fun for all you cowboys and cowgirls. Wild West Week runs from April 20-24, with rodeo-inspired activities scheduled throughout the week. The family-friendly fun kicks into overdrive April 23-24 during the PRCA Rodeo, which takes place at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, 1273 High St., Auburn.
