Area roundup: Placer, Colfax win PVL volleyball openers in 3 sets

The Lady Hillmen got off to a good start in Pioneer Valley League play, sweeping the visiting Foothill girls volleyball team 25-5, 25-6, 25-9 on Thursday.
Placer (13-2) was led by Nicole Lee (five kills and an ace), Clare McInerney (nine assists), Cadee Crouse (three aces) and Maddie Graham (seven kills).
On Tuesday, Placer beat Rio Americano 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-20. Top players from that game were Graham (15 kills, three aces), Raquel Quirarte (nine kills, 15 digs) and Kirstin Schauble (25 assists, four aces).
Placer returns to the court Tuesday to host Center. The game was moved from 6 p.m. to 4 because of Tuesday’s Powder Puff game at 7 p.m. at LeFebvre Stadium.

Colfax 3, Lincoln 0 — The Falcons (4-7, 1-0 PVL) won their league opener 
25-10, 25-13, 25-14 at home Thursday. Top hitters were Maddi Ittner (11 kills, four blocks, three digs), Sophie Satterlee (17 assists, four digs), Evie Sweet (18 points off of serves) and Stephanie Scott (three kills, four digs). The Falcons host Foothill Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
 
Girls golf

Placer 246, Bear River 287 — Hannah Gregg (40), Madi Holm (43), Brooke Griffin (49) and Kasey Egusa (55) led the Lady Hillmen to another Pioneer Valley League victory at the par-35 Lake of the Pines course Thursday. Bear River (2-3 PVL) was led by Jessica Pisenti (44) and Cassie Smith (50). The Bruins play Tuesday against Lincoln at Turkey Creek. Placer (7-4, 7-0 PVL) returns to the links Tuesday to host Center at the Ridge.


Girls soccer

Coupon fundraiser — The Placer girls soccer team is participating in a fundraising campaign. Until Sunday, Oct. 7, each athlete will be selling 20 Entertainment coupon books with access to additional online coupons. Donations are $20 per book and should be made out to Lady Hillmen Booster Club. All net proceedings will be allocated for Lady Hillmen soccer program to pay for soccer equipment, extra uniforms, assistant coach stipends, tournament fees, T-shirts and sweatshirts.
