Area roundup: Placer girls cruise past Colfax volleyball team in league matchBy: Journal sports staff
Another Pioneer Valley League match, another sweep for Placer. Raquel Quirarte had a team-high 11 kills, Kirstin Schauble chipped in with seven kills and five aces, and the visiting Lady Hillmen beat Colfax 25-14, 25-23, 25-13 Thursday night. “As always, Colfax came out hard and fought until the end,” said Placer coach Jennifer Wright, whose team improved to 15-2. “We were just stronger all around than them tonight.” Colfax (8-8, 2-1 PVL) was led by Maddi Ittner (five blocks, seven kills, two digs), Sophie Satterlee (14 assists, two kills, two blocks, four digs) and Stephanie Scott (five kills, one block, six digs). Despite the loss, Colfax coach Vicky Satterlee said, “It was an excellent, high-quality match. A lot of good effort today.” Satterlee was pleased with the passing of Carrie Fitzgerald and strong all-around play by Taylor Avilla for the Falcons, who beat Foothill 25-8, 25-9, 25-10 Tuesday. Colfax returns to the court Tuesday to play at Center. Kellen McDonald had five kills Wednesday for Placer, which hosts Bear River Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a battle of league unbeatens. Girls golf Placer 243, Lincoln 286 — Hannah Gregg fired a 34 on the par-36 Turkey Creek course Thursday to lead the Lady Hillmen (10-4, 10-PVL) to victory. She was followed by Madi Holm (42) and Brooke Griffin (54) of Placer, which hosts Bear River at the Ridge Tuesday. Bear River 277, Center 284 — Jessica Pisenti shot a match- and personal-best 38 at Cherry Island Golf Course Thursday to lead the Bruins to a win. Shelby Lampson (47) and Olivia Naves (61) followed Pisenti on the par-37 course. Bear River (3-4 PVL) plays Placer Tuesday at the Ridge. Girls tennis Del Oro 8, Woodcreek 1 — Kylee Webb (6-4, 7-5), Macey Bailey (6-0, 6-0), Ashley Brenning (6-1, 6-2), Belle Champlin (6-0, 6-1) and Tara McNabb (6-1, 6-1) recorded singles wins for the visiting Golden Eagles (8-4, 4-2 SFL) on Thursday. Doubles teams of Gracie Berry and Elena Hansen (6-0, 6-1), Sarah Silva and Emily Friesen (6-2, 6-2), and Rachel Lewis and Jenna Vmerzel (6-4, 6-2) triumphed for Del Oro, which plays at Rocklin Tuesday. Boys water polo Del Oro 14, Roseville 8 — Keenan Finney had five goals and Alex Henrikson added three Thursday for the visiting, victorious Golden Eagles (4-3 Sierra Foothill League), who travel to Granite Bay Tuesday.
