Auburn-area schools fare well at Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

-A +A

This region was well-represented at the 33rd Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, held this year at Iowa State University. A total of 815 teams from 40 states and 14 countries competed.

After placing either first or second at the regional and state levels, Magnolia Intermediate School sent two teams, competing in Division II in the “Weird Science” and “Odyssey Angels” problems. Bear River High School sent one team and competed in Division III of “To Be or Not To Be.”

Each team produced an eight-minute skit. The students do all the work themselves, from writing the skit, to making the costumes and backdrops, to creating technical devices. They are judged on a variety of elements, including creativity and style. The teams also competed in a spontaneous problem they had to solve in minutes.

The “Weird Science” team took fifth out of 63 teams, “Odyssey Angels” was second out of 56 teams and “To Be or Not to Be” was first out of 55 teams. All three teams are coached by Michele Uppman.

Many fundraisers were held before the teams headed to Iowa and they want to thank the community for their outstanding support.
