Keith Nesbitt to take over

Mayor Dr. Bill Kirby will pass the gavel to council member Keith Nesbitt at a special session of the Auburn City Council Monday night. Kirby will end his term as mayor in the official ceremony, beginning at 6 p.m., but continue to serve as a council member. Kirby said he was honored to serve as mayor in Auburn, where he has lived and worked as a physician for more than 30 years. Representing the hard work of many people in Auburn to make Auburn a start city in the Amgen Tour of California was among his favorite memories. “No. 1, I thought it wasn’t necessarily that big of deal and I was wrong. It was quite an honor,” Kirby said. “The city council is doing very, very well and we have great leadership. I think local government is as good as it gets. They don’t pay us. It doesn’t cost anything to run. This has really been a very good experience.” Look for a full-report of the Special Session City Council Meeting in Tuesday’s Journal. ~Sara Seyydin
