The Auburn Little League Softball Junior All-Star team finally got its shot in the Section 4 Tournament Friday night at Beggs Field. It was worth the wait for Auburn fans, who watched the home squad beat Parkway 14-3 and earn a spot in the Division 2 Tournament next week in Auburn. Jenna Knox pitched a complete-game four-hitter to lead Auburn, which had a bye in the first round and won by forfeit in the second round of the section tournament. Michaela Leonard led a balanced nine-hit attack for Auburn. Leonard was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, just missing a home run with one of her hits. Jamie Schlenker, Haley Tupen, Alyssa Chapman, Carli Farmer, Kailey Gaffney and Knox also had hits for Auburn. Taylor Hill walked three times and scored three runs. Auburn scored five runs in the second, four in the fourth and three in the sixth, all against different Parkway pitchers. Kassidy Kosmata snared a line drive at second base to snuff out a first-inning rally by Parkway. Schlenker also had an outstanding game at first base. Auburn will be back on the field Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of the Division 2 Tournament at Beggs Field. The winner of this week’s tournament will advance to the Western Regional Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
