Auburn Gymnastics Center athletes competed in the first of three state gymnastics competitions in Lemoore last weekend. The center’s level 6 gymnasts earned several top-10 finishes. Auburn 11-year-olds Kendall Sprowl and Elizabeth Jordan and Meadow Vista 10-year-old Janna Woodward finished their four-month season strong. Woodward’s fourth-place beam score of 9.125 impressed coach Natalie Otis. “She did a stunning beam routine,” Otis said. “I was so proud. It is extremely difficult to perform your best at this level of competition and she was both a composed and aggressive competitor.” Woodward went on to place ninth in the all-around and tenth on the vault. Jordan shined on the bars during her competition, scoring an 8.7 to finish fifth. Jordan also rose to the occasion with a solid performance on beam, scoring a 9.175. She took eighth place all-around. Sprowl, a first-time state competitor, earned a combined total of 33.75. Her best performance was on the floor (8.625). “We are very pleased with the effort our gymnasts have put into their season this year,” Otis said. “Every one of these gymnasts have made the coaching staff very proud.” Auburn Gymnastics Center also sent two groups of competitive cheerleaders on the floor Sunday at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. The Auburn Elite All-Star cheer team placed sixth and the Auburn Elite Cheerstarz special needs cheer team received medals for their participation. “This was our second competition for the level 2 team and our first for the special needs team and I can honestly say that both performances brought me to tears on Sunday,” Otis said. “They were fantastic.” Auburn Gymnastics Center is located in the DeWitt Center.
