Auburn man arrested for shooting gun in neighborhood

A 59-year-old man was arrested Saturday for allegedly firing a handgun into the air within the Auburn city limits. At approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, the Auburn Police Department received a 911 call of gun shots being fired in the city. Responding patrol units found witnesses in the area who saw the suspect, later identified as David Allen Deitchler, fire a handgun into the air at least one time. Officers approached the suspect’s residence and took him into custody without incident. Two handguns and one shotgun were also taken into custody as evidence. No one was injured in the incident. Penal Code 246.3 stipulates firing a gun in a manner which endangers others as a felony, punishable by imprisonment in state prison. He was released from Placer County Jail on bail as of Tuesday. ~ Staff report
