Police say 20-year-old hit while trying to cross roadway
A 20-year-old Auburn resident hit by a car Wednesday evening passed away Friday in the hospital. Andrew Loeffler was hospitalized with critical injuries at Sutter Roseville Medical Center Wednesday at about 5:30 p.m. after he was airlifted from Highway 49 in Auburn. According to Auburn Police Capt. John Ruffcorn, Loeffler was apparently trying to cross Highway 49 near Elm Avenue. He reportedly walked between two cars stopped in a line of traffic, Ruffcorn said. However, he did not appear to realize that the next lane of traffic over was still moving and, as a result, he was hit by a Scion Tc, Ruffcorn said. Loeffler graduated from Placer High School in 2005, his mother Anita Loeffler said. See the Journal's Monday edition for additional information. The accident remains under investigation.
