Auburn native headed to U.S. Track and Field Championships

Bear River High graduate Paul Litchfield is headed to the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships Saturday in Eugene, Ore. Litchfield qualified June 13 by pole vaulting of 18 feet and 1 inch. He had not topped the 18 -foot mark since the Olympic Trial Finals three years ago. Litchfield, who has been recovering from a broken back, currently trains and coaches pole vault for Fuzion Athletics in Minneapolis, Minn. Going into the national championships, Litchfield is seeded No. 11. His career best is 18-4.5. He said he hopes to place in the top three in order to qualify for a bid to the world championships later this summer.
