Auburn police arrested alleged burglar whose illegal activities also reportedly include drugs, forgery and conspiracy. The crimes also included two female minors who might also face charges. On Thursday, two suspects remained in custody at Placer County Jail and several others were referred to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office and Juvenile Probation department for possible charges. Steven Gregory French, 20, of Auburn, and David Lee Brocker, 21, a transient, were arrested Wednesday on various charges including burglary. Brocker was also booked on forgery and conspiracy charges. As detectives and officers investigated two recent burglaries in combination with a check fraud case, they discovered that five cases were connected to French and Brocker, according to a news release from Det. Sgt. Victor Pecoraro with the Auburn Police Department. Detectives found that one of the suspects stole checks from an Auburn home and gave those checks to three other people. The checks were cashed at Union Bank of California in Auburn, Auburn Food and Gas and the Safeway located in Auburn, Pecoraro said. Specifically, Pecoraro said Brocker stole a checkbook and handed out checks to another Auburn man and two female juveniles. Charges have yet to be filed against the third Auburn man. Information regarding the juveniles’ involvement was also forward to the Juvenile Probation department. Investigators believe that the third man then gave a check to French, who cashed the stolen and forged check at Union Bank.
