An Auburn resident was behind bars Friday after allegedly attempting to rob a fellow Auburnite. Detective Dustin McLaughlin arrested Shelly Dawn Jump, 44, Thursday near Grass Valley Highway and Elm Avenue for attempted robbery and resisting arrest. According to Detective Adam Cline, on May 17 a 24-year-old female Auburn resident told the department an unknown female suspect allegedly demanded property from her as she walked on Auburn Ravine Road. The 24-year-old refused to give her the property and the woman then allegedly grabbed and tried to steal the 24-year-old’s purse, but the purse owner was able to hold onto it and get away, Cline said. According to Cline, McLaughlin investigated the case and found evidence that identified Jump as the unknown female. Auburn detectives found Jump and arrested her Thursday, Cline said. As of Friday Jump was in custody in Placer County Jail with a $50,000 bail. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information or anyone who has experienced similar incidents with Jump is encouraged to call McLaughlin at (530) 823-4237, ext. 221. ~Staff report
