Auburn rolls in Division 2 opener

CHICO — Auburn Little League’s Junior All-Star softball team opened its Division 2 Tournament in dominating fashion on Sunday, routing Stockton 19-3. Second baseman Kassidy Kosmata, left fielder Paige Maberry and third baseman Haley Tupen each collected three hits to lead Auburn offensively. Maberry also scored three runs, while Tupen’s hits all went for extra bases — she had two doubles and a triple. In the pitcher’s circle, starter Sadie Stroup had two shutout innings and combined with reliever Lizzy Rutherford for seven strikeouts. Auburn will face Paradise in a winner’s-bracket game at 5:30 p.m. today.
