Auburn Seniors stay alive

The Auburn Little League Senior All-Star team overpowered McKinleyville 13-4 Monday night to move to the semifinal round at the Division II Tournament in Rio Linda.
Nicole Nevares pitched seven strong innings and Kacy Romero knocked in four runs for Auburn, which improved to 2-1 in the tournament.
Kailey Gaffney was 4-for-5 with two RBIs to spark Auburn’s basts. Romero finished 2-for-5 and was stellar on defense at shortstop. Haley Tupen was 2-for-5 with two RBIs while Taylor Graham and Abby Kendall added two hits apiece.
Auburn will be back on the field Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. A win would send Auburn to the championship round.
Junior Division
The Auburn All-Stars were knocked out of the Division II tournament in West Sacramento with a 12-2 loss to Paradise.
Becky Matthews had a leadoff triple and scored on a hit by Claire Hansen to open the game. Lori Schmitz had a hit to score Katie Urban later in the game. The Paradise bats heated up to put Auburn in an hole it could not overcome.
Major Division
Auburn fell to West Sacramento 12-2 to bow out of the Division II Tournament in Martinez.
Kiely Graves and Alicia Valdez led the defense while Sarah Hansen and Natalie Rowland each knocked in runs for Auburn. Morgan Cutter, Amanda Geil and Graves added hits, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the West Sacramento attack.
