Auburn Symphony Chamber Players perform
Violinist Anita Felix is the featured soloist in the Auburn Symphony’s final fundraising concert of the 2011-12 seasoin.
The Auburn Symphony Chamber Players present “Handel Introduces Bach to the English” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the State Theater, 985 Lincoln Way, Auburn.
Felix, the Folsom Symphony concertmistress, has been playing since she was a child. The Sacramento resident performs as a soloist and with the Sierra Ensemble trio.
On Saturday, Felix will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s concerto No. 2 for violin and orchestra in E?major.
“That was the piece that Michael Goodwin specifically asked me to do,” Felix said.
This program is the last one put together by Goodwin before his death in January. Pete Nowlen, who conducted Goodwin’s memorial concert, will return to guest conduct.
Saturday’s performance is a fundraiser for the Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center and will include a pre-concert wine and appetizer reception.
The chamber musicians will also perform George Frideric Handel’s Concerto Grosso in A minor, Opus 6 No. 4, and Edward Elgar’s “Serenade for Strings.”
Felix said it’s easy to know what has kept her playing violin for so long.
“It has to be a passion,”?she said. “It’s such a difficult field to be in, music, and constantly an involved struggle. I think unless you really feel passionate about it, you won’t stick with it.”
The program is also presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Sierra College.
