A traffic stop on Thursday for an equipment violation in Auburn turned into an arrest for illegal narcotics.

At approximately 11:36 p.m. on Thursday an Auburn Police Department officer pulled over 21-year-old Joseph Tucher Upchurch for a vehicle equipment violation. During the stop the officer developed probable cause for a vehicle search. The search revealed that Upchurch was allegedly in possession of prescription drugs and the illegal narcotic, ecstasy, according to a press release issued Friday by the Auburn Police Department.

Upchurch allegedly did not have a prescription for the prescription narcotic and the release states that Upchurch was also allegedly in possession of edible marijuana.  Upchurch was arrested for possession of controlled substances and booked into Placer County Jail – he is currently not in custody.
