Auburn transit driver takes busman’s holidays
By: Kelsey Thomas Journal Correspondent
Auburn resident Darren Klink, 39, answers a few questions on Wednesday morning about his job as a bus driver with Placer County Transit at the Placer County Transit office in Auburn What is your title? Driver two How long have you been a driver? I have been with the county for about three and a half years. I have been driving commercially for 17 years now. What do you like about being a driver? I love driving. I love being on the road and interacting with customers. The bus I drive is one of the largest in our fleet. I love driving larger vehicles and being out on the road. There is never a dull moment out there. Do you have regular riders? What do you talk about? Oh yeah. They do like to talk about work-related stuff and vacations. I have one lady who tells me all about NASCAR. Technically they aren’t supposed to talk to the driver, but we do. Which route do you usually drive? I have driven all the routes. Currently, I am driving the commuter route, which is from the Nevada Street station and I take it into downtown Sacramento. There are three stops total to Sacramento. That’s in the morning. Do you find driving stressful at times? Not at all. Right here is the best job I have had in a long time. Driving is my life. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I enjoy going to the ocean, in the winter I enjoy skiing, and spending time with my son, just goofing off with him. Where is the most interesting place you have ever traveled? Over the summer my son and I flew out to Virginia and picked up my sister’s car and drove it all the way here. We hit a few hot spots, like Yellowstone and went to Pittsburg. It took about a week to do and I think it was just shy of 4,000 miles that I drove. Like I said, I love to drive.
