Investigators are following a “very odd” arson case that involves a 93-year-old Auburn woman and her car.
Bill McKenzie, Cal Fire fire captain specialist, said he is looking into a possible arson case from over the weekend when a woman went into the garage and noticed the interior of her compact vehicle was burned.
Between about 10 a.m. April 18 and 3 p.m. April 19, investigators believe an unknown suspect entered the woman’s garage and started a fire inside her car.
Sunday afternoon, the woman reportedly went out to her garage to check for an item and noticed her gas door was open. She called a neighbor over and they realized the window’s were black. When they opened the doors, they saw that the interior had burned.
McKenzie said the fire had self-extinguished.
The victim reported that she didn’t hear anything from her garage during that time frame.
McKenzie said he could not comment further on the investigation because of its ongoing status.
