Auburn's Ryan Mason improves to 4-0 as Cal beats UCLA
Ryan Mason remains unbeaten.
Mason, the 2012 Placer High School alumnus having success pitching college ball for California as a true freshman, improved to 4-0 Friday at Jackie Robinson Stadium as the Golden Bears beat No. 11 UCLA 5-1 in a Pac-12 game in Los Angeles.
Mason struck out five Bruins in a career-high eight innings of work.
“It was a great pitching performance by Ryan Mason," said Cal coach David Esquer, according to calbears.com.
Mason allowed one run in the first but then shut down UCLA (15-4, 3-1).
Mason has now appeared in six games for Cal (14-8, 4-0) and has a 2.31 ERA in 23 1/3 innings pitched. His 21 strikeouts are a team high.
