Authorities: San Jose City College on lockdown after report of gunman on campus
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say San Jose City College is on lockdown and police are investigating reports of a gunman on campus.
San Jose City College police community service officer Pete Luna says the school is on what he termed an "active lockdown."
Luna says college police officers are coordinating with San Jose police trying to locate a person who was reported to have a gun on campus, but that there have been no reports of any gunfire or shots fired.
Luna says students and faculty are being told to remain on campus, while no others are being allowed to enter the campus. The lockdown started around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Local media reports say officers are conducting room to room searches, while helicopter live shots show police massed outside school buildings.
Founded in 1921, about 18,000 students enroll in the school every year, according to the school's website.
