Placer County Sheriff’s Office and U. S. Forest Service crews are combing part of the Western States trail in the Foresthill area in search of a missing runner. A man in his 40s out of Orangevale became separated from his group while running on a stretch of the trail between Devil’s Thumb and Deadwood, Placer County Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Tornberg said Sunday evening. “The rest of the people in the group got to the end and he had fallen behind,” Tornberg said. The two agencies searched by air and on the ground for the runner, who was reported missing around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Tornberg said.
