Bacharach, Becker team up for tennis title

Bryn Bacharach and Erin Becker gave Del Oro High a sweep of the Sierra Foothill League tennis titles Tuesday afternoon at Johnson Racquet Club in Roseville. Bacharach and Becker dropped the first set 4-6 to Granite Bay’s top pair, but rallied to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 to claim the title. “Beating (Granite Bay) in singles and doubles gives us a lot of confidence for when we meet them in the section finals,” Del Oro coach Jill Tooker said. The Sac-Joaquin Section Division II team tournament begins Monday with Del Oro visiting Oak Ridge at 2 p.m. The section singles and doubles tournaments begin Nov. 14 at Johnson Ranch. Golf The Del Oro High girls golf team’s outstanding season came to a close Tuesday at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament at The Reserve Golf Course at Spanos Park. Senior Cami Furgeson closed out her career with a 15-over-par 87 to lead the Golden Eagles, who placed ninth at the tournament featuring the top 13 teams in the section. Senior Olivia Nixon had a 90 in her final high school round. Bailey Furgeson shot a 91, Madeline Elder carded a 105 and Cherie Nixon added a 119 for Del Oro, which went undefeated in the Sierra Foothill League for the second straight season. The Golden Eagles shot 492 as a team. St. Francis won the tournament with a 394 while Loretto was second at 400.
