Re: “Hung up Foresthill Bridge BASE jumper rescued from tree branch,” Journal, Sept. 28:
A 26-year-old, Raymond Arrieta, BASE-jumped from the Foresthill Bridge and got caught in a tree where he hung 100 feet from the ground for six hours.
The man was arrested for violation of park code by taking part in an unsafe activity and being in an Auburn State Recreation Area after hours.
To me, BASE-jumping in general is stupid, but BASE-jumping from where you know it is illegal is even more stupid. I also think his punishment shouldn’t have been getting arrested, but to get himself out of the tree with no help. Hopefully this taught the adrenaline junkie a lesson.
